Émile Baes, born in Brussels on November 12, 1879 and died in Paris 16th on January 3, 19531, was a Belgian painter, engraver, art critic and writer.

Biography[edit]
After training in his hometown and in Paris and in the studio of Joseph Stallaert, Charles Baes exhibited his work in the major capitals of Europe, including Paris, where the portrait of King Albert I of Belgium, whose personal painter he was, can be found in the Musee des Invalides. The presentation of this painting, which he gave to France, took place on December 3, 1932, during a ceremony presided over by the President of the Republic.

Member of the Society of People of Letters of Paris, Charles Baes became Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor. On January 23, 1929, Officer of the Order of Leopold of Belgium.

He is also the author of texts and books about painting.

He is the father of Rachel Baes, painter linked to the Flemish politician Joris Van Severen.

He is a member of the jury of Miss France 1936.
