Initially specializing in japanware made from papier mache and tin, Loveridge’s adapted to the changing market by expanding into copper and brassware as the demand for japanning declined. Unfortunately, no records or catalogs from the company have been discovered, making it necessary to rely on archaeological findings to piece together the history of Loveridge’s.

While it is unclear whether all of Loveridge’s products were marked with a maker’s mark, it is likely that only a fraction of their mass-produced items were labeled. Prior to the late 19th century, it was uncommon for trade or other marks to be placed on such items. However, a few japanned pieces and a cast iron cooking pot have been found with the word “Loveridge” as a mark. It is important to note that not all of Loveridge’s pieces bear identifiable marks, as some identical items have been discovered with and without markings.

Some of Loveridge’s art metalware does feature registered design numbers, which provide a date for the design but not necessarily the date of manufacture. It is known that certain manufacturers used the same design for many years, and Loveridge’s may have done the same. The exact start date of Loveridge’s brass and copperware production remains unknown, but the registered design numbers offer some clues. However, it is certain that the company ceased operations in 1927, marking the end of an era for Loveridge’s and its legacy in the industry.
