This carved wood colorful sculpture is handmade & painted by an unknown puerto rican craftsman. The Virgen del Carmen is the patron saint of fisherman sailors and seaports. Also, believers request of her to protect their family or pray to her to find a job. She is from Carmelita’s order. She is holding baby Jesus in her left hand. Her right hand is missing (because usually wood carver carved the hands separately and is the first piece missing or by Puerto Rican folklore is offered as a gift in exchange for an answered pray request). The sculpture is standing over an octagonal wood base.
