A very stylish and well made hand-crafted Japanese studio pottery vase decorated with octopus tendril designs dating from the early 20th century. The heavily made hand-thrown vase is of tall bulbous shape standing on a round unglazed foot with recessed base. The vase has a slightly pinched upper body with a short raised narrow opening. The body of the vase is decorated in light brown glazes with stylized octopus tendril designs applied to the lower body and painted in tones of blue with thick white slip like glazes applied to the top of the vase and freely allowed to run down the body overlapping some of the designs. The vase is not marked but is a professionally produced piece and a wonderful display item.
