A super pair of Arts & Crafts oak and inlaid ladies & gents dressing chests by Shapland & Petter of Barnstaple dating to circa 1910. Each with demi-lune shaped thumb-moulded top and inlaid gallery back above two line inlaid drawers with brass drop handles on octagonal backplates and raised on square slightly tapering legs. The ladies chest with ebonised strung shield shaped bevelled mirror supported by square tapering supports with acorn finials and with lock to the top drawer stamped ’S&P B’. Each numbered to reverse and initialled in pencil inside the drawer ‘HW AB’.
In very good condition and striking quarter-sawn oak grain in a beautiful warm golden colour, recently cleaned and waxed ready to place in the home. Some very minor spots to the mirror and an old repair to the veneer at the side of one drawer.
