A tall and impressive stoneware vase decorated with duelling dragons designed by Robert Wallace Martin for Martin Brothers dated 1896. The tall ovoid bodied vase stands on a narrow rounded pedestal foot with narrowing shoulders and pinched neck with a slightly everted top. The body of the vase is incised with two pairs of ferocious duelling dragons with scrolling tails in cream colored glazes with detailed patterning against a mottled brown glazed ground. The vase has incised marks to the base Martin Bros London & Southall and is dated 11-1896.
Provenance: Acquired directly from a private US Collection.
In good presentable condition however has a notable lean to one side with an area of professional restoration (approximately 3/4cm to the body (hind leg of one dragon) with a small surface chip to the ear of one dragon and a firing imperfection to the tail of another.
