Contemporary Design
Yaniv Chen, the designer behind the Riviera Plinths for Lemon, draws inspiration from a childhood memory and a lifelong fascination with lattice patterns. Exploring conservatories as a child and collecting works by renowned artists Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Cecil Beaton in his conservatory, Yaniv fell in love with the intersecting timber pieces. This love led to the creation of the Riviera Plinths. The humble plinth is an easy thing to place in the home, and the lattice allows light through, minimizing interruptions to the interior. It feels like owning a small moment in decorative history paired with childhood nostalgia. Crafted from African Mahogany, the plinths evoke the beams of historical Victorian and Edwardian homes in Cape Town. Yaniv’s practice revolves around a deep connection to the past, manifested in this homage to decorative history.
