These beautifully designed and skillfully handcrafted nightstands date from the earliest years of the 1900s. They were undoubtedly made by one of Holland’s finest, but unfortunately they have not been marked with a maker’s mark. This mostly was the case when pieces of furniture were custom made. Pieces of furniture that were part of a maker’s ‘regular line’ often were marked. We have sold top quality made furniture from this Dutch era before and the quality of the workmanship and the materials never fail to amaze. If you look at these mixed-materials-cabinets with their great patina and original, inlaid, beveled glass tops, it is hard to believe that they have actually been used for well over 100 years. You literally have to look for a dent or a scratch in the surface. These night stands were obviously very well made, well loved, well respected and incredibly well looked after. This type of quality has always been at the top end of the market (price wise) which was another good reason for people to take good care of them.
Both doors, but also the drawers on the inside, still open and shut perfectly, both the outside and the inside are in excellent condition, the removable, beveled glass tops are in very good condition (apart from superficial scratches) and also the backs and all the sides of these cabinets are perfectly designed and in superb condition and finished in a fine fashion. It is for this reason that these rare cabinets with their stunning coromandel door handles can also be used in an open space (so not necessarily with their backs against a wall).
These cabinets are very practical in size and the quality, color, design and beauty will immediately and permanently change the look and feel of the room they are in. If you (or your clients) are looking for well designed, great quality workmanship AND excellent condition nightstands then these could be flying your way soon. Mind you, our fair price for this striking antique pair includes perfect packing and also worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 days.
